They laugh and giggle in a rather manic fashion, always sounding too eager for their own good. Jockeys are one of the Special Infected unique to L4D2, joining Chargers and Spitters as the latest additions. If they are next to a player, be sure to shove them away before shooting them, or they will explode all over any adjacent Survivors and still summon a horde. Their vomit range is short, and even when they start puking it still takes a moment to actually hit players who are close enough, so just shooting them on sight is usually a good idea. They and Spitters are the only Special Infected that can hurt Survivors after dying, at least on standard L4D2 servers. Listen for some wicked piano music too.īoomers are one of the easiest Special Infected to identify thanks to the low key horn music and the fact they always sound like they’re going to be sick – even after they’ve already vomited. Lone players will probably be done for unless they happen to have a Chainsaw, which can shred through the tongue, or are quick enough to give the Smoker a shove just before they make contact with the body. If a Smoker attacks while other players are around, then it is nothing to worry about. Players with good vision and graphical settings turned up may also notice clouds of smoke, or small, green dots scattered about their field of vision when a Smoker is nearby. You will know when a smoker is around thanks to the hacking, wheezing and coughing which they do while alive.

Smokers tend to approach parties of Survivors from behind, trying to grab at any who are lagging behind the others. Make sure to listen for the screeching of a violin.

A well-timed M2 will deadstop them, ending the pounce and leaving them paralyzed for a few moments, during which killing them off is as easy as shooting fish in a barrel. Stopping Hunters is easy enough, as long as the player sees them before they make their attack. They are the only Special Infected that really “growl” at the Survivors, which is a dead giveaway as to what’s waiting around the next corner. They have a characteristic shrill, shrieking sound which is especially audible when they are crouching or jumping. They can leap great distances and deal up to 25 damage in an instant by pouncing on a Survivor from a high vantage point. Hunters are admittedly one of the nastiest Special Infected to run across.

Don’t be the guy who shoots a Boomer while it’s right next to another Survivor! Read on. Here I’ll cover characteristics of each Special Infected, including their abilities, the noises they make, and tactics for dealing with each of them. Knowing the behaviors and sound clips of the various Special Infected zombies in L4D2 can help players to make quick plans when the beasts can be heard but are still out of sight, which is usually the case.
